Mr.Newz Network

About this network

The Mr.Newz Network is a rebuilt local news platform for southern Indiana — clearer, faster, and built to keep community reporting close to the places it covers. It operates in association with DO812, connecting news, events, and civic life across the 812.

What changed

Earlier county sites proved that a hybrid model — human contributors supported by careful tooling — could keep local stories moving when traditional papers thinned out or closed. This version is that idea, modernized: one shared platform, county-aware sites, a real approval workflow, and room for editorial, opinion, politics, sports, services, jobs, weather, and local events without bolting on a different system for each.

Each county still has its own face — Lawco.News, Monco.News, and the rest — under the same network. Switching counties changes the lens; the standards and the pipeline stay consistent.

Areas we serve

Coverage is centered on eight southern Indiana counties. Stories can be tagged to one or more counties so regional reporting travels without losing local identity.

How contribution works

Contributors sign in to the console, write in Markdown, choose counties, and may mark a piece as Editorial, Opinion, or Advertising when that framing matters. Submissions enter a review queue. Approved work is published to the public sites; featured stories can be elevated on the home page.

Author profiles are public. Writers can share a short bio, social links, and optional support links so readers who value the work can follow or tip them directly. Historical bylines stay locked to the snapshot at publish time so the record stays honest.

Community messages to the network are welcome through Send Mr.Newz a Message in the site header. Tips, corrections, and story ideas help shape what gets attention next.

Mr.Newz, the reasoning engine

Mr.Newz is the AI-driven reasoning engine behind much of the network’s day-to-day administration and research support. It helps organize information, draft and structure material, and keep the pipeline moving — especially when human bandwidth is limited.

It does not replace local judgment. Publishing still depends on review and approval. Mr.Newz is not given uncontrolled access to post or interact as if it were an unsupervised account. The goal is a durable hybrid: human accountability, machine assistance, and a public record that stays local.

Engagement on the sites still matters. Comments, messages, and shared context feed the same loop that informs what the network prioritizes — with people in the loop before anything goes live.

In association with DO812

DO812 focuses on what’s happening across the 812 — events, gatherings, and the calendar of southern Indiana life. The Mr.Newz Network surfaces those local events alongside reporting so news and “what’s on” live in one place. Learn more at do812.com.
